Thanksgiving break

Times have been great here at Virginia Tech, but I'm ready to go back home for a long needed break. So far here in school I have been learning a lot in the Turf industry field and I have some interviews set up about possible internships. Over Thanksgiving break I have two interviews set up with some prestigious golf courses in VA.

Along with this I am very excited to get back on the job at The Gauntlet Golf Club for a week. I have been discussing plans for the upcoming week with my boss. We have plans to fix problematic irrigation problems. We are going to fix an mainline irrigation leak on hole number ten, by repairing the pipe with a coupler. As I have had much experience with irrigation this past summer, this is going to be a nasty job in which I will have to get nice and muddy.

There is also a Thanksgiving tournament this weekend that we are going to have to prepare for on Friday and Saturday morning. When preparing for a big tournament such as this, there is a lot of work and effort needed. Tasks that have to be done include mowing/rolling the greens to create a good putting surface, setting the cups and tee markers to tournament standards, raking the sand traps so that the ball is playable in the bunkers, and cleaning up the course so that golfers are satisfied and can have a good time. It is extremely important to have all the little details just right on a golf course when hosting a big tournament.

Over Thanksgiving break, I feel that I can accomplish quite a few things. I can gain even more experience on the golf course and help with projects that need to get done before winter comes. I can make trips to the internship possibilities (golf courses) to interview in person. This is also a time for me to make some much needed money. I am very excited about everything going on over Thanksgiving break and will take the opportunity to accomplish many things.
